Welcome to Heywire8

Heywire 8 is a national conversation about sharing, remixing and reusing Open Education Resources (OER).

New Zealand has the capacity to establish a leadership role in fostering the evolution of a sustainable ecosystem which supports individuals, organisations and government agencies in achieving their objectives through digital OER.

Heywire8 Think Tanks are open planning sessions which bring together practitioners, OER advocates, thought leaders, policy makers, and decision makers together to monitor the pulse of OER in New Zealand and to collectively plan and fuel the growth and implementation of a national OER collaboration.

Working together we can make the future happen because OER is a sustainable and renewable resource

Purpose

Heywire8 aims to establish a thriving national OER ecosystem. We arrange open think tanks where:
  • We reflect on why we are doing this and what's in it for us (value proposition)
  • We take stock of New Zealand OER initiatives and celebrate our OER achievements
  • We plan what we are going to do and how will we do it.

Following the WikiEducator traditions of thought leadership established with the Tectonic Shift Think Tank, we hope that our experiences with the Heywire8 Think Tanks will create a model for inspiring and informing other countries in building national OER collaborations. More importantly, we hope that Heywire8 will be an important catalyst to establish a thriving New Zealand community of OER content collaborators building on the solid foundations established by the national eLearning community.
