I am this month's WikiEducator User Page Expo Award Winner (December 2008). UPE
I am an Associate Professor of Botany in Gargi College, an Undergraduate college of the University of Delhi with over 25 years of total teaching experience. I am a trained Botanist, but over time my interests have diversified – issues related to environment, science education - I strongly believe in free access to educational content and in collaborative learning not only among peers but also between a student and a teacher. Probably due to my long association with the Centre for Science Education Communication, University of Delhi, I like to introduce myself as a ‘science educator’. Besides my academic responsibilities, I spend a lot of time working on innovations in teaching Botany including designing experiments which can be done with minimum facilities. I am very fond of photography, especially close-ups of plants and flowers.
My Resume is here, read More about me.

WikiEducator Projects of My Interest

Colours

=Colours

  • I find Colours very fascinating.....this page will echo my love for colours

*I love playing Wiki with colours :-)

  • However, in our enthusiasm to use colours we must remember that many persons are colour-blind. Do not use colours for distinguishing features. Here is a useful link to look at if you like using colours. [2]
  • On WikiEducator avoid colouring text as blue/purple as these are auto-generated colours for linked pages. A visitor on your page will click a blue text & wait for the page to open :-(

Steps for adding COLOURS to your Page

This page has been added by the course co-ordinator to | eL4C15 On-line Workshop 2.8.2 Advanced Users:-) Thanks Nellie and Patricia.
  1. Put in text on your page
  2. decide which set of words you want to colour
  3. add < FONT COLOR = "Green" > that is a less than sign followed by FONT COLOR then equal to symbol, name of the colour within double codes then add symbol for greater than.(Do not leave space between any symbols)in front of the text to be coloured.
  4. at the end of the text put the same syntax with the original colour name, otherwise all the text beyond this point will get the new colour.
  5. Example:I find Colours very fascinating.....this page will echo my love for colours
  6. Click on the edit button above this section and look at the syntax I have used in the line above.
  7. Normal colour names work but for names of more shades see the weblink I have mentioned above.
HAPPY COLOURING

This is a nice way to add colours  :-)

Here is another Colour Combo  :-) In a different size and style.

Photography and Photomicrography

I am very interested in photography

Click here to see samples of various methods of putting in Photographs on a WikiEducator page, as I have applied to this User Page.

Method of putting in Photographs on a WikiEducator Page

Simple Steps for putting photographs on User page:

1. Select the photo from your digital collection & click on its properties to see the size.
2. If the size is more than 2 MB, using any editing tool reduce the size to less than 2 MB.
3. Rename the photo (see renaming tips).
4. write the following in edit mode of the page where you want to place the photo: Image:Photo name.jpg
5. Save the page. The image name will appear in red on your page.
6. Click on the red location, Upload box will open. Fill details as asked. Click on upload.
7. If the prompt tells you that an image with same name already exists, please change the name of your image & reload. DO NOT CLICK ON THE 'IGNORE WARNING'.
8. If image gets uploaded go to your user page, the image would have appeared in the page.

Tips for renaming images/photos before uploading to WikiEducator

Image name Tips:

  1. . Names should be short but specific. I have used GargiWEGita1, GargiWEGita2 etc.
  2. . Avoid spaces as spaces get replaced by underscore eg. "Gargi WE Gita 1" will become "Gargi_WE_Gita_1", it can be a source of error on adding to user page.
  3. . Image name should not be common words like 'scene' or 'smile' or 'My Photo' which have the risk of duplication.
  4. . Image name can be kept as a constant series eg. GargiWEGita1, GargiWEGita2 etc. keep increasing the no. whenever you add new image.
  5. . We at WE give suggestions for renaming, not strict rules. WikiEducator is all about innovations :-)

To be a good teacher you also need to learn and this is what WikiEducator gives, teachers become learners.

I'm Nadia El Borai, an Egyptian national living in Japan. My experience on WikiEducator started as I was interested in getting my lectures online.

I joined the UNESCO discussion group and received an email announcing the WikiEducator course which I took in February of 2008. I found the help of the community very useful and I was not inhibited even to ask the simplest questions. The course teachers as well as fellow learners were helping answer questions. Normally looking at a computer would initiate a yawn but I could spend hours trying to get something to work. Read more...

Discussion

  • NAMASTE.

This is Dr S Ramakrishnan.

Heritage Awareness makes one an Enlightened Citizen. The scientific heritage of India that is Bharatam is yet to get deserving global exposure because it is in Sanskrit. By virtue of being blessed with a doctorate in English and also in Sanskrit I have discerned my sacred duty to serve the great cause of intergenerational culture and heritage transfer through digital medium. Thanks to WiKiEducator for the unparalleled opportunity provided through L4C training.

May I request you to visit the Google Group recently opened by me titled "Foundation for Indian Scientific Heritage". Go through the Project draft where you will find Ethno-Botany also as an area of our activity. Join the group and participate in the discussions. http://groups.google.co.in/group/foundation-for-indian-scientific-heritage/web/body-to-soul-human-glow?hl=en
